Forgiveness

Matthew 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors.

The key point that resonates with me in this prayer is we’re asking God to forgive us as we have forgiven others. The selfless act of forgiveness shown recently by Brandt Jean, the brother of Botham Jean has evoked a plethora of mixed emotions. His neighbor, who was an off duty Caucasian Dallas police officer, killed Botham and was subsequently convicted of murder. To get to this point of forgiveness in life for Brandt was a process. It took time, lots of prayer and the Word of God to reach this level of healing. On that day the world got to see the Word of God in action. We witnessed some of the fruit of the Spirit manifested (Galatians 5:22-23 AMPC), the Peace of God (Philippians 4:6-9 AMPC) along with the nature and character of the new man the Apostle Paul talks about (Colossians 3:12-15 AMPC).  Forgiveness is a decision. When we look at Jesus, who is our example, while on the cross He was asking the Father to forgive them for what they were doing to him, because they didn’t have a clue (Luke 23:33-35 MSG). God’s end game is that inwardly we would resemble Christ (Romans 8:29 AMPC). The only way for us to get there is to experience some hardships. Today, meditate on your own need for forgiveness and how God has already forgiven you for the wrongs you have yet to commit.
