Hebrews 12:1 Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us
One definition of weight is:to cause to incline in a particular direction by manipulation.
The enemy is using whatever he can, by manipulation, to distract you. A weight doesn’t necessarily have to be sinful in nature yet it will hold you back and draw your attention away from the Word of God. Weights could be time spent watching television or playing games on your phone etc. Doing something that really doesn’t add any value to your life and isn’t helping you like our text says, “run your race” is a weight. To remove weights you have to change your focus and look to Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-3 MSG). Early moments of the day in His Word and prayer are tools of encouragement designed solely to aid in quenching our spiritual thirst for God (Psalms 63:1 MSG). Examine yourself to determine if there are any weights you can discard (2Corinthians 13:5 AMP). Make the necessary adjustments and you’ll patiently run your race.
