Romans 2:4 Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate the wealth of His kindness and forbearance and long-suffering patience? Are you unmindful or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent (to change your mind and inner man to accept God’s will)?
Our text does a real good job of defining the term REPENT; to change your mind and inner man. If we’re to go a little deeper, it also means to change directions. Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired as it relates to certain aspects in your life that are not producing the desired fruit? If so, it’s time to have a conversation with God about them. As in all conversations, both parties have a chance to talk and listen. I know with me, the Holy Spirit always gives me a gentle nudge that something isn’t quite right. Somewhere down the line, I got complacent about certain areas in my life where I’ve had some challenges. In talking with God about it, repentance came up. I had to change directions. The first thing I needed to do was RESIST (James 4:7 AMPC) those defeatist thoughts and push past them. According to God’s Word, I had to cast them down (2 Corinthians 10:5 AMPC), and in order to do that, I began speaking against them. I had to say something. I’ve learned that you can’t defeat a thought with a thought. You defeat them with words spoken out of your mouth. I began putting the Word on it. The most important component to all of this, so I can stay on top of it is, I have to RENEW my mind daily with the Word (Ephesians 4:23 AMP) and have my speech in alignment with my desires, even if they haven’t manifested yet (Romans 4:17 AMPC). Maintaining my daily confessions helps me to stay focused, because there’s nothing that I cannot do (Philippians 4:13 AMPC).
